26th Bar Low Tournament – 2nd November 2024

INTRODUCTION

The Bar Low is specifically for kyu players (EGD GoR 2000 or less on the date of the tournament) and the MacMahon bar is set no higher than 3 kyu.

This is a five round tournament and is rated EGF Class C.

Thanks to a sponsor who prefers to remain anonymous:
the event is free of charge for anyone aged under 18
there is a discount for full time students

In accordance with the wishes of the sponsor, prizes are in the form of books to the value of £25. If you win a prize you may choose from books published by Slate and Shell or Kiseido and which are available from Amazon or similar.

Formal entry and payment begins 45 minutes before the start of the first game.

ACCOMMODATION

There is no accommodation on site. However we do have a list of hotels and other accommodation many of which are within a 15 minute walk.

Formal registration begins at 9am unless you have paid in advance.

PRE-REGISTRATION



You can pre-register now to join the registration queue.  Just send an email to: londongocentre@gmail.com titled “26th Bar Low” with your grade, club, country and EGD PIN (if you have one, find your PIN).

You will pay the entry fee associated with your date of pre-registration whenever you pay.

Please pay in advance as detailed here. It helps with the smooth running of the tournament. If you cannot attend then if we can re-use your place you will get a full refund as soon as your place is taken.

In the unlikely event that we cancel the tournament all fees will be refunded within 48hrs of the announcement.

REGISTERED AND PRE-REGISTERED PLAYERS

The entry list is in two sections:
registered players
pre-registered players

Registered players have paid in advance and are guaranteed a place.

Pre-registered players are in a queue by date of pre-registration.

As soon as you choose to pay you are moved to the registered players list. Once the number of registered players reaches the tournament limit the pre-registered players list becomes a waiting list.

If you cannot see your name or would prefer us not to publish it please contact us and ask for the entry list to be updated.

BGA levy
£5 if you are not a member of your national Go Association. (You can join BGA online). This non-member surcharge is waived if this is your first Go tournament within Europe.

It helps us with the administrative workload if you pay by bank transfer well before the start of the tournament

TOURNAMENT RULES

The tournament is conducted according to adapted EGF rules and your participation implies knowledge and acceptance of these rules. A reference copy will be available during the tournament.

Komi 7½ points
Handicap (if required) McMahon difference – 1
Analogue Timing 25 minutes main time then 20 moves in 5 minutes (Canadian Overtime).

INITIAL McMAHON SCORE

Your initial McMahon score (MMS) determines who you will play in the first round. Your MMS will be set from your GoR as published on the date of the tournament. If you do not have a GoR you might be required to provide other evidence of your strength. If you do not think your GoR is accurate (for example, you are a quickly improving kyu player who hasn’t played in any recent tournaments) please email us with your preferred strength.

PRIZES

Prizes will be books to the value of £25 and will be awarded to the first three players in the tournament and to other player with four or more wins

Tournament Certificates will be awarded to anyone with four wins or more
